You’ve got questions…Which one is more effective? Which one is better for ME and MY skin? Have no fear! We have the answer to all your cosmetic questions!
First things first, let’s talk about the similarities of the two services (though there aren’t many). Both are exfoliating, resurfacing, and minimally invasive. Both services aid in clearing the build-up of dirt & debris resting in your pores.
So how are they different? Have a seat, grab a snack, and let’s talk.
A minimally resurfacing service that gently ‘sands’ the skin. The head of the wand has a rough edge with an opening in the middle that acts as a vacuum. As the esthetician slides it across your skin, it gently breaks up the dead skin cells, and other debris that clogs the pores then sucks them away! Sounds like a dream right? This is ideal for skin prone to colorless, raised bumps. The kind of acne that is persistent, but most importantly, not red or irritated. This service makes subtle changes in the skin, but little to no change in improving the overall tone.
A completely resurfacing service for the skin. The esthetician uses a 10-blade scalpel to gently ‘shave’ the face, removing dead skin cells, dirt, debris, general buildup (old makeup, dried sweat) in the pores, and the vellus hair, commonly referred to as ‘peach fuzz’. Now, I know what you are thinking… “I don’t want my facial hair to grow back thicker and stubbly!”. Here’s the reality: the common misconception that when you shave your legs or underarms and your hair grows back thicker is simply just that…a misconception. The hair on your legs and underarms is terminal hair, a completely different (thicker) type of hair growth. When you shave terminal hair, it does grow back stubbly, but not thicker. It simply feels thicker because of the type of hair growth that it is. Vellus hair, however, is completely different. Vellus hair growth can be found on the face, tops of the hands, chest (in women), stomach, back, and backside. Think of it as a protective coating for your skin. When you remove this hair on the face, it allows your products to penetrate deeper into your pores. Dermaplaning immediately reveals a brighter, cleaner skin tone. It alleviates the appearance of wrinkles, and plumps the skin, making you look years younger in just minutes. This is a service that you should keep up for the well being of your skin, and effectiveness of your cosmetic products. But, by no means something you have to get done every few weeks to avoid ‘stubbly’ facial hair. Some women do in fact grow the thicker terminal hair on the upper lip, and of course the brows are terminal hair as well. As those areas are not eligible for dermaplaning, the esthetician simply pauses the dermaplaning service, quickly waxes the area, and moves on.
A 15 minute service that can be done alone, or within a facial for optimal skincare success.
